Israel’s response to Hamas’ attack may have unified Iran’s Arab proxies

(Originally published Nov. 2 in “What in the World“) Israel launched two airstrikes this week against Gaza’s largest Palestinian refugee camp, killing two of the leaders behind Hamas’ surprise attack on Israel Oct. 7, but also dozens of civilians.

Meanwhile, Iran-backed Houthi rebels in Yemen said they had launched a barrage of missiles against southern Israel, raising concerns Tehran may have found a way to unite the disparate Arab militias it backs around the region and turn them into a coordinated alliance that ultimately draws the U.S. directly into the conflict.
